Birth Cert + ID + Ports Query

I realize passports are the more intelligent/safer method. Due to circumstances, we booked less than 20 days before embarkation and don’t have time to acquire passports. ​ Since we will be doing a close-looped 3 night cruise in less than 1.5 weeks, do we need to take our birth certs, IDs, and sail pass when we get off at the ports or JUST the sail pass? I’ll need to sort out a dry method to keep documents safe if we need to bring them ashore. ​ And does this create any drama with going through customs? I’m feeling very paranoid
