My opinion on gratuities:
Personally I believe that gratuities have become too expected both by staff and business owners. The businesses (whether cruise lines or land businesses) use gratuities as a way to supplement their bottom line by paying staff very low wages. The staff expect the gratuities because their wages are low and they need the extra to be able to live decently. Too many businesses are now automatically adding gratuities to the bill. Staff aren’t giving the service that they should to earn that extra because to them it’s part of their wages. I think it’s disgusting that a business expects extra
